Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office in Bali deported a foreign national (foreigner) from Belgium who intended to flee the country to avoid compensation after damaging a rented motorbike used in a jump from a cliff. “We ensure there is no room for compromise for foreigners who violate regulations and attempt to evade legal processes,” said the Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bugie Kurniawan, in Mangupura, Badung Regency, Bali, on Friday. The Belgian national, initialled SD, had gone viral on social media for performing a dangerous act by jumping from a cliff at one of the beaches in Ungasan Village, Badung Regency, Bali. He jumped from a cliff estimated to be up to 100 metres high into the sea, using a motorbike. The rented motorbike did not fall into the sea because it was tied to the cliff edge. However, the motorbike was severely damaged due to the impact with the cliff. Bugie explained that when the vehicle owner demanded compensation, SD refused, claiming he had no money. The aggrieved party then reported to Immigration, and officers summoned SD for clarification. Instead of taking responsibility, SD chose to flee to Malaysia by first flying to Sorong, Papua, then transiting in Makassar, South Sulawesi, to fly to Kuala Lumpur on 30 March 2026. Immigration officers at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar foiled SD’s departure and escorted him back to Bali with Makassar Immigration personnel. After examination at the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office in Badung Regency, SD finally paid compensation to the vehicle rental business owner and was forcibly expelled back to his country. He was deported through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport back to Belgium via Doha. Bugie explained that SD violated Article 75 paragraph 1 of Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration. In addition to the deportation sanction, SD has been added to the blacklist to prevent free entry into Indonesian territory for a certain period as determined by the Directorate General of Immigration in Jakarta.
