Immigration Authorities Name Chinese National as Suspect for Using Fake Documents to Obtain Indonesian Passport
The Class II TPI Immigration Office in Tanjung Uban, Riau Islands Province, issued a suspect determination for a Chinese national with the initials YX on Monday (11 May 2026). YX is suspected of providing untrue data and statements in an application for Republic of Indonesia (RI) travel documents.
The Head of the Tanjung Uban Immigration Office, Adi Hari Pianto, explained that the suspected passport application data forgery case was uncovered on 9 April 2026, when the suspect visited the Tanjung Uban Immigration Office as scheduled via the M-Paspor app to apply for a new passport. The individual arrived using the identity of AP.
According to Adi, during the interview and photo-taking process, officers suspected indications of data forgery. This was because the suspect could not communicate in Indonesian and could only communicate in English.
“Based on these suspicions, officers conducted further examination by the Intelligence and Immigration Enforcement Section (Inteldakim). Further, during the examination, YX stated that he was not an Indonesian citizen but Chinese,” said Adi in a press release in Jakarta on Monday (11 May 2026).
According to him, officers then found evidence in the form of a Chinese passport in the name of YX that is still valid until 2026. From the examination results, said Adi, it was discovered that the suspect allegedly used invalid Indonesian residency documents, namely an identity card (KTP), Family Card (KK), and Birth Certificate in the name of AP.
All those documents were used to apply for an RI passport. “Officers also secured several other pieces of evidence, namely M-Paspor registration documents, a statement letter, and one mobile phone unit used for the application process,” Adi explained.
