JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Directorate General of Immigration has apprehended a US citizen with the initials AJP, who is a fugitive in a murder case in his home country.

AJP was handed over to the US Embassy and underwent deportation on Thursday (23/4/2026), under the escort of US Marshals.

“AJP was secured by immigration officers while passing through the autogate at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, upon arrival from Taipei, Taiwan. The Immigration autogate has been integrated with the Interpol 24/7 system, so Interpol-wanted subjects fleeing to Indonesia will be immediately detected during immigration checks,” said Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko in a written statement on Friday (24/4/2026).

“This handling demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that only foreigners who provide benefits and do not endanger public security and order may remain in Indonesian territory. We are also continuing to strengthen synergy with domestic law enforcement agencies and international partners, as immigration handling today requires solid cross-border collaboration,” he stated.

Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement, Yuldi Yusman, said that the handling of this case had been carried out since the individual’s initial arrival in Indonesia.

“On 17 January 2026, AJP, who is a fugitive in a murder case in South Carolina, United States, arrived in Indonesia via I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. On 19 January 2026, AJP was handed over to the Directorate General of Immigration for strict monitoring and placed in a detention room for further examination,” said Yuldi.

“The Directorate General of Immigration will continue to enhance immigration supervision and enforcement in a professional and accountable manner, as well as strengthen international cooperation to safeguard the sovereignty and security of the state,” he added.
