Immigration and Correctional Minister Ensures Transfer of Inmate Who Visited Coffee Shop to Nusakambangan

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services (Imipas) Agus Andrianto has assured that the transfer of corruption convicts from Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) to the maximum-security prison on Nusakambangan has been carried out for the inmate who wandered to a coffee shop. “I have already transferred that violator (corruption convict) to (the prison on) Nusakambangan,” Agus said when met at the Gran Melia Hotel in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/4/2026). “That’s what I conveyed to Mr Director General (of Corrections). Correctional officers have no duty for escorting. So now I am requesting that a circular be issued, stating that even for detainees attending trials, the escort must be from the police,” he stated. The Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Ministry of Imipas) has suspended the Acting Head of Class IIA Kendari Detention Centre, La Ode Mustakim, and two others after they were examined in connection with the case of a corruption convict stopping by a coffee shop in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra). Deputy Head of the Cooperation Sub-Directorate of the Directorate General of Corrections, Rika Aprianti, said that the Acting Head of Kendari Detention Centre and two other officials have been reassigned to the Directorate General of Corrections. “Further examinations have been conducted on the relevant escorting officers, two structural officials involved, and the head of the detention centre. They have also been reassigned to the Directorate General of Corrections as part of the examination by the Internal Compliance Operational Unit of the Directorate General of Corrections,” Rika Aprianti said in a written statement on Friday (17/4/2026). “The relevant inmate has been transferred to the maximum-security prison on Nusakambangan,” she added. Previously reported, a convict in a mining corruption case was caught meeting several people at a coffee shop on Jalan Abunawas, Bende Ward, Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi Province (Sultra) on Tuesday (14/4/2026). The convict is SP, the former Head of the Harbour Master of Kolaka. He is currently serving a sentence at Class II A Kendari Detention Centre after being sentenced to five years in prison by the Kendari Corruption Court at the District Court. The Acting Head of Class II A Kendari Detention Centre, La Ode Mustakim, explained that the convict was indeed out to attend a Case Review hearing at the Kendari District Court on Tuesday morning. “The individual was summoned to attend the case review hearing. He was called by the Kendari District Court to attend the hearing today and was escorted by our officers at 09:00 WITA this morning,” Mustakim said.
