Immigration accelerates return services for Hajj pilgrims at airport
The Soekarno-Hatta Special Class I Immigration Office (TPI Soekarno-Hatta) in Tangerang, Banten, has accelerated the return services for 34,853 Hajj pilgrims using Seamless Corridor Gate (SCG) technology.
Galih P. Kartika Perdhana, Head of the Soekarno-Hatta Immigration Office, stated on Wednesday that the use of this technology is part of the agency’s commitment to providing modern immigration services oriented towards public convenience. “The utilisation of SCG has proven capable of speeding up the inspection process, allowing pilgrims to proceed immediately to the Hajj Dormitory to rest after their long journey,” he said.
Seamless Corridor Gate (SCG) is an innovative, contactless, and walk-through immigration inspection technology that utilises facial recognition (biometrics) and artificial intelligence (AI). The gate automatically verifies passenger identities in mere seconds as they walk through the corridor.
Perdhana added that the agency remains committed to providing professional, humanist, and responsive immigration services, including supporting the smooth implementation of this year’s Hajj pilgrimage. For pilgrims requiring assistance or those unable to be processed via the automated system, inspections are conducted at immigration counters manned by officers.
He further noted that the optimisation of SCG is expected to support smoother public mobility through the Immigration Checkpoints at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
Meanwhile, the General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Heru Karyatus, revealed that the airport will facilitate the return of 34,853 Hajj pilgrims to the country from 1 to 30 June 2024. “This number consists of 391 pilgrims from the Pondok Gede embarkation and 445 from Bekasi, served by Garuda Indonesia and Saudia Airlines,” he said.
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport will serve 84 flight groups (kloter) during this repatriation phase. This includes 8,701 pilgrims from the Pondok Gede embarkation, 12,092 from Bekasi, 9,096 from Banten, and 4,964 from Lampung.
