Immediately Delete These 15 Apps That Steal Data from Mobile Banking Users

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Fifteen applications have been identified as dangerous because they are capable of stealing personal data and financial information from users. All of these applications were found in the Google Play Store and have been downloaded millions of times.

According to a report by McAfee, the total number of downloads of these applications reached 8 million. The majority of them are fake online lending (pinjol) applications, known as Spy Loans.

Of the 15 applications, three are reportedly available in Indonesia. These three applications have been installed by approximately 2 million users in total.

According to McAfee, all of these dangerous applications use names, logos and designs similar to legitimate financial applications. The danger is that the fraudsters also promote fake advertisements on social media.

Spy Loan applications allow cybercriminals to easily access and steal users’ personal data. Furthermore, these applications can also be used to drain victims’ accounts.

The modus operandi used is to offer fake online loans with low interest rates and easy requirements to attract potential victims. After the application is downloaded, users will be asked to enter various personal data and financial information.

This data is then used by the perpetrators to terrorize victims. They demand repayment of the loan with very high interest, to the point that the victims have difficulty and are unable to pay.

This fraud targets victims from three regions, namely South America, South Asia and Africa. The following is a list of 15 dangerous applications found, quoted from Toms Guide:
