PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) is collaborating with the Ministry of Environment (KLH) to realise the national one million mangrove programme, involving 37 provinces across Indonesia. The simultaneous environmental action was carried out to mark World Mangrove Day 2026 on Sunday (26/7) across 37 provinces, with more than one million mangrove seedlings planted at 162 locations, said PT IMIP Director of Environmental and Sustainability Dermawati S in a written statement received in Palu on Monday. She stated that the company has a responsibility to ensure the success of the national decarbonisation and sustainable development agenda. The momentum serves as an important reminder that protecting coastal ecosystems is an integral part of efforts to tackle climate change, while maintaining a balance between industrial growth and environmental sustainability. The activities were centred in Denpasar, Bali, on Sunday, marked by the planting of 15,000 mangrove seedlings in the Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park, with the participation of 100 young forest conservationists. Meanwhile, in Morowali Regency, a similar activity involved the Indonesian Navy, tenants within the industrial estate, and the community of Fatufia Village, Bahodopi District, with 2,026 mangrove seedlings planted. She noted that since 2023, companies within the IMIP industrial estate have consistently carried out various mangrove rehabilitation programmes in several coastal areas. “Mangroves are excellent at absorbing carbon while maintaining the quality of coastal ecosystems against various disaster threats,” Dermawati said. She added that in 2025, PT IMIP participated in the rehabilitation of mangrove areas on the North Coast of Java together with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. Similar programmes are also being implemented in the Palu area of Central Sulawesi and the Brebes area of Central Java for spatial protection to ensure the sustainability of coastal ecosystems. In Morowali, the company continues to develop mangrove conservation programmes through corporate social responsibility activities, together with estate tenants and communities in industrial ring villages in Bahodopi District. “This includes coral reef rehabilitation, turtle protection, and other coastal wildlife protection,” she said.
