IMI hosts AIT general assembly

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) will host the 13th general assembly of the Alliance de Tour Internationale (AIT) in Nusa Dua, Bali this weekend.

M. Yusuf, chairman of the organizing committee, said here yesterday that 100 delegates from the Alliance's Asia Pacific countries would be attending the congress on May 25 and 26.

Paul A. Nouwen, President of the Alliance, and Don MacKay, chairman of the Alliance's Asia Pacific region, will attend the congress. They will both arrive in Bali a day before the congress begins.

The biennial congress, which will be officially opened by Minister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunication Joop Ave and Balinese Governor Ida Bagus Oka, will discuss air pollution, tourism, traffic regulations and security.

So far the Association has launched an international driving license and a Carnet de Passage for cars entering the country for tourism. The Alliance, which will be celebrating its 100th birthday next year, will also provide constructive information about driving regulations and tourism here.

"It's an honor for the association to host the 13th regional congress," M. Yusuf said.

The Alliance's Asia Pacific region has 18 members: Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia. (yan)
