Imaniar's spouse detained

JAKARTA: Police detained Mohammed Malcom Don, the Singaporean husband of local singer Imaniar Noer Said, for allegedly assaulting employees of Ayer island, Kepulauan Seribu, on Nov. 18, his lawyer Ariyanto Bakri said on Saturday.

Ariyanto said police arrested Don, better known as Max Don, 34, at his home in Rawamangun, East Jakarta, at 10:30 p.m. on Friday.

"Police questioned him right after the arrest. The questioning lasted until 5 a.m. this morning," Ariyanto said, adding that Imaniar served as his translator.

Don reportedly struck two front office employees and a security guard after being asked to pay an entrance fee to the privately managed Ayer island. He and a group of 24 people had arrived at the island on a private boat.

A maid employed at Don's house filed a police complaint in July this year, alleging she had been physically abused by Don. -- JP
