IM3 Strengthens Digital Protection with SATSPAM+ Amid Rising Ramadan Scams
SLEMAN – The holy month of Ramadan has become an increasingly vulnerable period for digital fraud. The surge in communication and online transactions — from Lebaran shopping and holiday bonus transfers to online charitable giving — has created openings for cybercriminals to target the public.
Throughout 2025, digital fraud cases during Ramadan rose by 34.7 per cent. Some 89 per cent of scams occurred via WhatsApp, whilst 64 per cent took place through telephone calls. Data from the Indonesia Anti-Scam Centre (IASC) showed that the highest number of fraud reports originated from Java. In the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) alone, 7,034 reports were recorded up to November 2025, with total losses reaching Rp 143.88 billion.
In response, IM3 from Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison has introduced SATSPAM+ (Anti-Spam and Scam Unit Plus), described as Indonesia’s first digital protection service for WhatsApp calls.
“These conditions have driven IM3 to launch SATSPAM+ as a digital protection solution for the public, particularly productive groups such as office workers, MSME operators, ride-hailing drivers, healthcare workers, and university students,” said Fahd Yudhanegoro, EVP Head of Circle Java at Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, on Friday (21/2/2026).
Fahd explained that the feature is designed to detect and prevent potential fraud in real time. SATSPAM+ is equipped with automatic detection capabilities that work in real time to identify and block suspicious numbers across SMS, regular calls, and WhatsApp calls.
He revealed that since its initial launch in August 2025, customer response to the feature has continued to grow.
“Digital protection has now become a primary need for the public, especially during periods like Ramadan when communication and transactions increase. We want our customers to be able to go about their activities with greater peace of mind, without worrying about digital fraud threats,” he said.
Meanwhile, Adiyanto Adhikusumo, SVP Head of Marketing Circle Java at Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, added that through this feature, IM3 aims to remind the public to remain vigilant against the rise in digital fraud, particularly during Ramadan. The company is working to educate customers so they can avoid scam tactics and OTP code misuse.
According to him, many members of the public receive calls from unknown numbers or WhatsApp messages asking victims to click links or share OTP codes.
“During Ramadan there is usually an increase in fraud potential. This is because many people receive additional income or bonuses during this period, making them bigger targets for scams,” he said.
Adhi stated that the feature is available to all IM3 customers and can be easily activated through the MyIM3 application.
“All customers can activate it easily through the MyIM3 app,” he said.
In addition to SATSPAM+, IM3 has also introduced the Ramadan SATSPAM+ Package, through which all customers automatically receive protection at no extra cost. For IM3 Platinum customers, the feature is included in postpaid services with additional benefits such as roaming to Malaysia and Singapore, as well as bonus data promotions during Ramadan.
The service is underpinned by the AIvolusi5G network, a combination of artificial intelligence and 5G technology, ensuring connections remain fast and secure even as digital communication surges sharply during Ramadan. In Yogyakarta, IM3’s 5G network covers 24 sub-districts with approximately 305 active base transceiver stations to maintain service stability across shopping centres, educational districts, residential areas, and transport hubs.
“The presence of 5G is supported by nearly 305 active BTS units integrated with AI-based technology, ensuring connectivity quality remains stable amid dynamic customer usage patterns,” he said.
