Illiteracy down in Tangerang
TANGERANG: After a two-year intensive adult education program, Tangerang regency managed to reduce the number of illiterate people from 17,514 to 2,673.
The success in 26 districts prompted President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to give the regency an award last week.
"I never thought that the regency would receive an award from the President," Regent Ismet Iskandar said on Monday.
Regency officials aim to completely eradicate illiteracy in the near future. -- JP
