Illegal workers sent home

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: Six illegal workers deported from Malaysia arrived here last week.

The workers were repatriated in cooperation with the Indonesian embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Lukman Hakim, an official of the East Nusa Tenggara social affairs office, said yesterday.

The six arrived here Saturday and were returned to their home villages Sunday after they were lectured by the social affairs office on the proper procedures for seeking employment abroad.

"They acknowledged that they had been to Malaysia several times without following the official procedures," he said as quoted by Antara.

Regent of East Flores Henky Mukin said it is difficult to ban people from going abroad illegally.

"Although we always remind them to abide by the regulations in going abroad, we have not been very successful," he said.
