Illegal Waste Disposal Site in North Jakarta Not Fully Addressed, Residents Request Action
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - An illegal waste disposal site located next to the Penjaringan City Forest Park in North Jakarta has not yet been fully addressed.
As observed by Kompas.com at the location on Friday (15/5/2026), the semi-permanent stalls accumulating waste still stand in a row along Jalan Kepanduan II, Pejagalan, Penjaringan.
Piles of black plastic waste, white sacks, and wooden debris can still be seen in several of these stalls.
Some stalls are tightly covered with tarpaulins, obscuring the view of the back. However, others are wide open, allowing the piles of waste to be clearly seen from the outside.
Several pickup trucks are also parked at some of the stalls. One of the trucks appears to be carrying a full load of wooden debris.
The foul smell of the waste can even be smelled at the Teluk Intan Apartments, which are located directly across from the row of illegal stalls.
The smell is even more noticeable when the wind blows from the direction of the waste site towards the apartment.
One local resident, Stan (35), said that the foul smell from the piles of waste often reaches the apartments across the street.
βYes, the smell is noticeable when the wind blows in this direction. The smell of the waste is quite strong,β he said when interviewed by Kompas.com at the location on Friday.
According to him, action has been taken several times after the location of the illegal waste disposal site went viral on social media.
However, he hopes that the authorities will take more decisive action so that the remaining stalls can be cleared immediately.
In agreement with Stan, Intan (not her real name), another local resident, hopes that action can be taken more quickly to address the illegal waste disposal site.
She said that residents simply want the area to return to being a green space that is comfortable for relaxing, as it was before it was filled with piles of waste.
