Illegal Truck Parking Persists at Mengwi Terminal Despite Raids
Truck drivers continue to park illegally on the shoulder of Jalan Jaksa Agung R Soeprapto, despite repeated raids, the installation of signs, and banners prohibiting parking in the area. The Head of the Badung Transportation Agency (Dishub), Anak Agung Gde Rahmadi, stated on Monday (10/8/2026) that while officers persistently advise the truck drivers, some still violate the rules. Over the past week, officers have prioritised a persuasive approach by directly reprimanding the drivers, yet some remain defiant and ignore the no-parking signs. Rahmadi urged the public to report violations and to help remind drivers who continue to park there.
Dishub Badung is now preparing stricter measures by involving the police. Rahmadi confirmed that ticketing sanctions will be imposed on stubborn drivers to create a deterrent effect. He stated that if warnings continue to be ignored, firm action in the form of traffic tickets will be taken. Truck drivers have been asked to be more disciplined and comply with regulations to ensure smooth traffic flow around the Mengwi Terminal area, and to stop using the road shoulder as an illegal parking area.
A previous enforcement operation was conducted along the road on Wednesday (5/8) morning, during which more than 30 trucks fled upon the arrival of a joint team comprising the Transportation Agency, Badung Police Traffic Unit, Civil Service Police Unit, Bali Class II Land Transportation Management Centre (BPTD), military personnel, and traditional village authorities. The illegal parking frequently causes traffic jams and has drawn complaints from residents for creating a slum-like environment. Drivers claim they are forced to stop to rest, cool their brakes, or wait to cross to Lombok. Badung Police Traffic Unit Head AKP Ni Luh Tiviasih noted that during the previous operation, officers only issued verbal warnings and did not apply ticketing sanctions, as they are awaiting further instructions from the National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) and the Bali Regional Police Traffic Directorate.
