Illegal radio stations rampant
MATARAM: The Indonesian Amateur Radio Operators Organization (Orari) stated on Saturday that Orari's failure to transmit important messages to its members was due to broadcasters operating illegally in Indonesia.
Orari headquarters chief Sarwono said that Orari was currently trying to locate people, including its own members, who operate radio frequencies without an official permit.
"According to existing regulations, people operating radio stations illegally could be fined up to Rp 600 million," Sarwono said in Mataram.
Orari, which has 2,000 members throughout Mataram, is currently conducting a test of all its members to determine whether or not its members are following the broadcasting code of ethics. -- Antara
