Illegal Parking Persists in Blok M, Attendant: We Never Force Payment

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Despite having been regulated, illegal parking in Blok M was still visible on Thursday night (2/4/2026).

Kompas.com observations revealed numerous motorcycles parked in front of culinary shophouses around Blok M Square.

At one spot, several parking attendants in black-and-orange uniforms were seen.

Meanwhile, the official underground car park (basement parking) appeared crowded, with some motorcycles parked right up to the barrier doors.

An illegal parking attendant, Sara (55), admitted that she had been registered by Transportation Department officials on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

However, at that time, she was only asked to show her identity card for photographing.

“It was just my ID card being photographed, and then they said not to force visitors to pay,” Sara explained to Kompas.com at the location on Wednesday.

That is why Sara is still there. All this time, she claims she has never forced visitors to pay additional parking fees.

Her presence there, she said, is because many visitors park their motorcycles haphazardly.

She does not mind if some visitors choose not to pay for the motorcycle guarding service. Especially since some visitors claim they do not have cash.

“Some even ask about QRIS because they don’t have small change. But I just say, ‘It’s fine, just pay at the counter,’” Sara revealed.

Occasionally, Sara is called by visitors to retrieve their motorcycles.

Even while chatting, several visitors approached and gave Sara Rp 2,000 notes without being asked.
