Illegal Parking Near Monas Leads to Car Tyres Being Deflated
A motorist complained that her car’s tyre went flat while parked in the National Monument (Monas) area, Central Jakarta. The woman’s car had its tyre deliberately deflated. A video of the woman’s complaint went viral on social media. Viewed by detikcom on an Instagram account on Monday (23/3/2026), the woman recorded several cars parked on the shoulder and roadway of Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan also having flat tyres. In the video, the cars parked on the road shoulder are located south of the Monas area. Regarding the flat tyres on several cars, the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) has responded. It turns out that Dishub DKI officers deliberately deflated the tyres of cars that were illegally parked at Monas. “This is done so that residents do not park haphazardly. We have carried out socialisation and urged residents not to park on the roadway,” said the Head of Dishub DKI Jakarta, Syafrin Liputo, when confirmed on Monday (23/3/2026). He stated that field officers have directed residents’ cars to be parked in the IRTI Monas area or other parking pockets. But drivers are stubborn. “Officers always direct vehicles to park at IRTI Monas or other locations with parking spaces such as Gambir or Lapangan Banteng,” he continued. Syafrin said that Dishub DKI Jakarta enforces by towing and removing the valve cores from car tyres to give a deterrent effect. A total of 28 cars had their tyres deflated. “As many as 28 vehicles (had their tyres deflated),” Syafrin said when contacted on Tuesday (24/3). He reiterated that Dishub DKI officers have repeatedly carried out socialisation regarding the prohibition of parking on the road shoulder. “We have carried out socialisation and urged residents not to park on the roadway,” Syafrin emphasised.
