Illegal Parking Fees at Blok M Square Not Yet Eradicated

The illegal levy practice is carried out by several men not wearing official badges around the parking area. Visitors feel that this often happens after these men without official badges help find parking spots or manoeuvre vehicles out. “It’s not openly forced, but it makes you feel uncomfortable if you don’t give, it should only be at the exit gate, but there are still those asking inside,” said Rian (37), one of the visitors when met by Kompas.com at Blok M on Thursday (14/5/2026). Visitors still receive parking tickets as before after pressing the button on the machine. In some parking areas, several officers in white shirts and black trousers can be seen on duty while directing the flow of incoming and outgoing vehicles. They help direct cars that are about to park or vehicles that are about to leave the area. However, besides the uniformed officers, several men without official badges are also seen around the parking area. They appear to help position vehicles and give signals to drivers who are about to park their cars. Several times, visitors were seen giving money to the men without official badges after being helped to park or remove their vehicles from the parking spot. “Well, as a visitor, it’s confusing, is this really a public area or is there a special rule,” he said. In the end, he chose to follow the request of the unclearly attired parking attendants to avoid the possibility of damage to his motorbike. “Because there are many people standing directing parking, as a visitor, I just comply so as not to cause a fuss or fear the vehicle getting damaged,” Rian stated.
