JAKARTA — Parking vehicles along Jalan Matraman Raya, specifically in front of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters, has drawn attention following a viral video on social media.

In the circulating footage, numerous vehicles can be seen using half the road width for parking despite the presence of prohibition signs. The video was uploaded by Instagram account @ijooel, showing rows of vehicles parked along Jalan Matraman Raya, extending from the East Jakarta Health Sub-agency building to the Jatinegara Market area.

Additionally, several motorcycles and cars were observed parked on the pavement, obstructing pedestrians. Some police boats belonging to the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters were also placed on the footpath.

“In front of the East Jakarta police station, parking is consuming half the road. It was orderly at one point, but the problem returned. At night, parking on the opposite side overflows. This needs to be regulated so it doesn’t become arbitrary like this,” the Instagram account wrote.

According to Kompas.com’s observations on Thursday (12 March 2026), several vehicles belonging to the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police were still parked along the roadside despite prohibition signs. Additionally, motorcycles and cars were parked in front of the police building and on the pavement surrounding it.

Meanwhile, the area in front of the East Jakarta Health Sub-agency building no longer showed parked vehicles, as traffic cones had been installed as barriers.

“However, this situation keeps recurring because we know that location has various services — the police office, health centres, post offices, and markets,” said Harlem at the East Jakarta Mayor’s Office on Thursday (12 March 2026).

Harlem explained that enforcement operations were conducted in front of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters and surrounding areas on the same day, deploying 75 personnel from the Transport Agency and 25 personnel from the military and police.

“Four four-wheeled vehicles were towed and brought to the East Jakarta Transport Sub-agency office for further enforcement procedures,” he said.
