A viral video showing the dilapidated condition of Kebon Kacang Road in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, caused by rampant illegal parking sparked widespread discussion on social media. The Central Jakarta City Government mobilised a joint task force to address the chaotic conditions.

Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin stated that the enforcement operation was conducted to restore the Kebon Kacang area to a conducive state. He acknowledged the persistent problem of illegal parking in the district.

“The enforcement operation in the Kebon Kacang area is being carried out as an effort to restore urban infrastructure functions as intended. To date, illegal parking has been found at several locations that disrupt order and environmental comfort,” Arifin said on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

The chaotic parking situation occurred in the Kebon Kacang district, specifically behind Grand Indonesia shopping mall. Arifin stated that the enforcement was intended to restore urban infrastructure functions in the Kebon Kacang area in accordance with their intended purpose.

He encouraged the community to work together to maintain and create an orderly and comfortable environment for all.

“Let us build shared responsibility to protect city facilities and infrastructure in order to create a more orderly, safe, and comfortable environment for residents,” he said.

Arifin shared a video of the Kebon Kacang enforcement operation. In the video, illegal parking spaces, street vendors, and unauthorised parking attendants were seen being cleared by officers.

Following the enforcement, the entire Kebon Kacang Road was passable without obstruction, as there was no longer any illegal parking or merchant tables that typically occupied the road width. Excessive tree branches were also trimmed by officers.

“Unauthorised parking attendants without official assignments managing streets in Jakarta were crossing Kebon Kacang Raya Road heading towards Plaza Indonesia and Grand Indonesia, complaining that the road was full of illegal parking, street vendors, and drainage channels that had been converted to business spaces, making it difficult to clean,” he said.

“Let us maintain Jakarta to be increasingly orderly and comfortable for us all,” he added.

The video of the chaotic parking conditions in the Kebon Kacang area went viral on social media. In the circulating footage, both sides of Kebon Kacang Road appeared filled with motorcycles and cars parked illegally. Additionally, street food vendors had set up stalls on the road surface. This condition created a situation that was extremely crowded and congested.
