Illegal Parking Cars at Monas Deflated, Pramono Demands Strict Action Against Illegal Parking Attendants
Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has spoken out regarding the deflation of tyres on cars parked illegally in the Monas area by transportation department officials. Pramono also requested that transportation officials take firm action against illegal parking attendants (jukir). “For the parking attendants and the incident at Monas, I request that it continue and firm action be taken because we want Jakarta to maintain order in that regard,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (25/3/2026). Pramono stated that enforcement must not be done half-heartedly. Pramono had personally telephoned Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin to ensure the enforcement operation is carried out consistently. “This includes me personally telephoning the Central Jakarta Mayor regarding the area behind Grand Indonesia that has been cleaned up; it must continue, not half-heartedly anymore,” he stressed. Previously, a video of residents complaining about their car tyres being deflated while parked in the Monas area went viral on social media. The deflation was carried out because the cars were stopped on the roadside and main road, while the illegal parking attendants were reportedly not targeted by the enforcement. Head of DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said the deflation was conducted as an enforcement measure against illegal parking at Monas. “It was done so that residents do not park haphazardly. We have conducted socialisation and urged residents not to park on the main road,” Syafrin said when confirmed on Monday (23/3/2026). “Officials are always directing vehicles to park at IRTI Monas or other locations with parking spaces such as Gambir or Lapangan Banteng,” he added.
