Illegal Parking Attendants Return to Blok M, 10 Individuals Recorded by Officials
JAKARTA — The practice of illegal parking fee collection has been discovered again in the Blok M area, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. Several parking attendants are suspected of collecting fees from motorists without clear regulations. Their actions have triggered public complaints.
These complaints emerged after a video circulated on social media showing the activities of illegal parking attendants in front of a row of shophouses in the area.
In the video uploaded by the account @dashcamindonesia, a man in a cream T-shirt is seen tidying up a parked motorbike.
The presence of illegal parking attendants is said not to be the first time. They often appear at several points in the Blok M area and collect parking fees from motorists.
In response to the report, a joint team from the South Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department (Sudinhub) and the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) went to the location for enforcement.
Head of Sudinhub South Jakarta, Bernard Pasaribu, said that at least 10 illegal parking attendants have been recorded.
“There are 10 illegal parking attendants who have been recorded and given a statement letter to not carry out illegal collections,” Bernard told Kompas.com on Wednesday.
These parking attendants were asked to sign a statement letter to not repeat their actions.
The Sudinhub side emphasised that they will take firm steps if similar practices occur again.
“So currently, a statement is made by the parties concerned, and if it recurs, we will join with Satpol PP for enforcement,” Bernard said.
