Head of the Central Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department, Agung Hehakaya, explained the chronology of the incident involving 20 cars in the Monas area whose tyres were deflated on Sunday (22/3/2026).

Initially, officers discovered several cars parked on the roadside of Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan in Central Jakarta.

Subsequently, officers advised the drivers to move their vehicles to the designated IRTI Monas parking area.

“However, it was discovered that some members of the public were actually directed by illegal parking attendants. And when the Transportation Department officers arrived at the location, those illegal parking attendants fled,” Agung said when confirmed by Kompas.com on Monday (23/3/2026).

Meanwhile, for vehicles left by their owners, officers reportedly waited.

“However, the owners did not show up. To prevent more vehicles from parking in that location and to provide a deterrent effect, enforcement action was taken,” Agung stated.

Agung said that based on Regional Regulation (Perda) Number 5 of 2014 on Transportation, in Article 62 paragraph 3, motor vehicles that stop or park not in their designated places may be subject to enforcement by removing the tyre valve caps of motor vehicles.

“Drivers are urged to park their vehicles in the provided parking locations, follow the directions of officers, and not follow the directions of illegal parking attendants,” Agung added.

According to the Instagram account @jakartapusat.info, without showing her face, a woman recorded the condition of several cars that had their tyres deflated.

In the video, the cars were seen parked on the shoulder and roadway of Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, located on the southern side of the Monas area.

More than three cars were visible with deflated tyres.

“Hello, Central Jakarta Transportation Department info. What’s this? Why have all the tyres from the National Museum area been deflated? What’s the meaning of this? So people who want to leave are now having trouble. Please provide more information. Look at this, please provide information,” the woman said.
