Illegal Motorcycle Parking Next to Lebak Bulus MRT Station Cleared, Bikes Relocated to New Site
JAKARTA — Illegal motorcycle parking beside Lebak Bulus MRT Station has come under scrutiny after going viral on social media. The row of motorcycles was blocking part of the road and causing congestion on Jalan Kembang Raya. Additionally, at the intersection of Jalan RA Kartini, residents’ trading stalls were also impeding traffic access. In response to the situation, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has utilised an empty plot owned by PT Sarana Jaya beside Poins Square Mall as a new parking location. “I urge residents not to engage in illegal parking anymore, as it violates regulations, causes congestion, hinders public access, and is prone to criminal acts,” said Rano at the site on Friday. According to Rano, illegal parking is often relied upon by workers due to its cheaper cost compared to official parking locations. In addition to the parking crackdown, four traders’ stalls were dismantled and carts relocated. Rano stated that the traders will be relocated to other sites prepared by the government. He added that, besides violating rules by using the road body, trading activities near the MRT line are also considered risky. “It’s not that striving is not allowed, it is, but we will prepare the place for it. We know this is MRT access, with quite high frequency,” he said. Head of the South Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department, Bernad Pasaribu, said the new parking area will be fully operational starting the next day. Some vehicles, he said, have already been moved from roadside parking to the new location. He added that parking attendants who previously managed motorcycles on the roadside will continue working at the new parking site.
