Illegal logging prevented

PALU: Illegal logging activities dropped drastically at the Lore Lindu National Park in the Donggala regency following the launch of a new operation to prevent such activity two weeks ago.

Central Sulawesi Governor Aminuddin Ponulele said on Wednesday that there were no reports of illegal logging activity at the park after the operation -- a joint initiation of the local military, police and provincial administration -- had started.

"The joint operation has been found to curb illegal logging practices at the park," Ponulele said.

Provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Taufiq Ridha said that the police had established security posts at the exit points of the conservation area. --JP
