Illegal levies at sea

From Warta Kota

It is really a very sad case that certain members of the government security personnel impose illegal levies on small- scale owners of fishing vessels.

Usually when a fishing vessel leaves Muara Baru Fish Auction Port to go fishing at sea or returns into the port carrying its catch, it will be stopped by certain sea security officers asking to see the documents of the vessel. Strangely, even if the papers are in order, they will insist on being given between Rp 40,000 and Rp 100,000 as otherwise they will take a few kilograms of the catch, depending on the kind of the fish and the size of the vessel.

Relevant authorities must immediately take action to stop the imposition of these illegal levies, as otherwise foreign investors will be reluctant to invest in our country.
