Illegal levies at RSCM

Illegal levies at RSCM

From Warta Kota

I was accessed an illegal levying by Central Hospital
administration when undergoing a medical consultation. The
official consultation fee is Rp 4,000 for a new patient and Rp
1,000 for a onetime patient. But factually, besides the Rp 1,000
official fee, an illegal fee of Rp 3,000 to Rp 5,000 is imposed
on onetime patients by clerks of the hospital's 2nd floor medical
records section. The patients, including me, are compelled to pay
the illegal fee, because for medical consultation, patients'
records are absolutely required by the doctor.

The ill-behaved clerks said the extra fee served as a tip. We
can imagine how much they receive in tips, because every day
there are hundreds of patients. The medical records section head
Mr. Helmi seems to always be closing his eyes in facing that kind
of corruption.

A similar case also occurs in the Administrative of the
Surgery Room. The patients slated for surgery must pay an extra
fee in addition to the official fee. A certain administrative
clerk named H. charged me a fee of Rp 100,000. I was operated on
20 July, 2000. In the Surgery Room I had to pay Rp 400,000,
whereas the official receipt was only Rp 270,000.

Mr. H. said the remaining money would be divided to
administrators of other operating rooms. Just imagine, how much
the illegal levying is in the hospital operating rooms.

I appeal to the hospital management that they observe their
subordinates' performance. Don't let them justify their misdeeds
because of their small salaries.
