Illegal hospitals face Rp 50m fine

SEMARANG: Individuals or enterprises that operate hospitals without permits will face six months imprisonment or a Rp 50 million (US$5,430) fine, according to a draft bylaw proposed by the Central Java provincial administration.

"There will be no compromise, even for those who establish leper hospitals," councillor Sarwono said on Saturday.

Hospitals other than those for leper patients are subject to pay annual retribution range from Rp 1 million to Rp 3 million.

There are 13 hospitals registered in the provincial capital of Semarang alone. -- Antara
