Illegal foreign workers deported

TANGERANG, West Java (JP): The Tangerang office of the Ministry of Manpower has had three foreigners deported for working without the necessary permits.

"They have been proven guilty of violating the law by working illegally without permits from the Ministry of Manpower," the office head, Engkos Kosim said yesterday.

Engkos said two of the three deported workers were Japanese nationals working at a garment factory in Mauk district, Tangerang, he said.

He said the Japanese workers introduced themselves as "buyers" when they were asked to identify themselves by officers of the Ministry of Manpower.

He said his office will also punish the management of the factory which hired the foreigners.

"The owner of the factory is now standing trial at Tangerang district court for hiring illegal foreign workers," he added.

He also said his office had sent a written warning to a developer in Tangerang for employing a foreign general manager.

The foreigner was registered as an advisor to the developer, he added.

He said that currently there are at least 1.194 foreign workers at 223 companies in Tangerang regency. Most of them are South Koreans (491) and Japanese (171). (jun/28)
