Illegal Drug Shops in East Jakarta Attacked with Firecrackers and Motor Oil
Three shops selling controlled pharmaceuticals in the Pasar Rebo area of East Jakarta have been attacked by unknown assailants. The attacks are suspected to have been carried out because the perpetrators were reportedly angry about the illegal sale of controlled drugs at the locations.
“Three shops selling controlled pharmaceuticals in the Pasar Rebo area were attacked by unknown persons,” said Pasar Rebo Police Station Chief AKP I Wayan Wijaya at the East Jakarta Mayor’s Office, according to Antara news agency on Tuesday (10 March 2026).
According to him, the kiosks were originally leased for other businesses, such as cosmetics sales, mobile phone equipment, and household necessities such as tissue paper. However, in practice, they are suspected to have been misused to sell controlled drugs without authorisation.
“Initially, the location was used for cosmetics, mobile phone equipment and tissue sales. But later it was misused to sell controlled pharmaceuticals,” explained Wayan.
Wayan urged the public not to take the law into their own hands if they discover suspected criminal activity.
“We appeal to the public that if they find kiosks selling Schedule G drugs, they should report to the police. We will definitely follow up,” said Wayan.
The firecracker attack by unknown persons occurred on Saturday evening (7 March). The shop is located on Jalan Raya Bogor, Pasar Rebo District, East Jakarta.
The act of youth firing firecrackers at the drug shop went viral on social media. The perpetrator of the shooting rode a motorcycle and stopped whilst lighting firecrackers, which he then directed at the shop.
One motorcycle rider who was making a purchase had to dodge when he saw the firecracker heading towards him. The first shot entered the shop and exploded. The shop owner could only crouch when attacked by shots from unknown persons.
From the video audio, it was heard that the shooting occurred because the perpetrator was angry about the sale of controlled drugs at the shop, which he believed could damage the younger generation.
Motor Oil Attack
In addition to being shot with firecrackers, the drug shop was also pelted with motor oil by residents in East Jakarta. The shop was hit with motor oil because it was said to be selling Tramadol.
In a video viewed on Tuesday (10 March 2026), initially a resident on a motorcycle stopped in front of the shop. He then threw motor oil towards the shop.
Two people could be seen conducting transactions with the shop seller. After throwing motor oil at the shop, the motorcycle rider quickly accelerated and left the location.
Kramat Jati Police Station Criminal Investigation Unit Chief AKP Fadoli said his team had investigated the information by visiting the shop with the local neighbourhood association chairman and head. Police also searched for the shop owner. The shop’s rolling door was then forced open.
“The action taken by the shop owner forcibly opening the rolling door of the shop with the neighbourhood association chairman and head, and inside the shop was already empty with only display cabinets remaining,” said AKP Fadoli.
