Illegal Cigarette Warehouse Uncovered in Kalideres, 720 Cartons of Various Brands Seized
Police have uncovered the practice of illegal cigarette production and distribution in the Miami warehouse area, Jalan Kayu Besar, Kalideres, West Jakarta. A total of 720 cartons of various cigarette brands were seized in the operation.
The West Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Nasriadi, stated that the disclosure was carried out by the Special Crime Unit of the West Jakarta Metro Police on 2 August 2026, following information provided by the public.
In this case, police arrested a suspect identified by the initials DD, who is suspected of being involved in the production and distribution of illegal cigarettes that lack excise stamps.
“These cigarettes are illegal because they are not registered with the excise office,” said Nasriadi on Wednesday (2/9).
In addition to lacking excise stamps, the cigarettes also failed to include the required health warnings regarding the dangers of smoking, as mandated by regulations.
In this case, police seized 320 cartons of the GP brand and 400 cartons of the Marbol brand. Several variants were also found, including Marbol Melon and Marbol Super.
From further investigation, it was revealed that the materials used to manufacture the illegal cigarettes were ordered from a network in East Java and transported via land to Jakarta. Once they arrived at the warehouse area in Kalideres, the materials were processed and packaged before being distributed.
Nasriadi mentioned that the authorities are currently conducting further investigations to uncover other parties involved in the network, including those supplying the materials from East Java.
Based on preliminary findings, it is suspected that the cigarettes were distributed to consumers in several regions outside of Java. It is estimated that the illegal production and distribution activities have been ongoing since December 2025, generating an estimated income of approximately Rp36 million per month.
“We are still investigating the total profits obtained by the suspect as well as the possibility of a larger network behind the production and distribution of these illegal cigarettes,” said Nasriadi.
For his actions, DD faces charges under Article 437 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 150 of the Health Law, with a maximum prison sentence of five years and a maximum fine of Rp500 million.
Additionally, the suspect is charged under Article 62 in conjunction with Article 8 of Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection.
Furthermore, Nasriadi stated that the West Jakarta Metro Police will also coordinate with Civil Servant Investigators (PPNS) from Customs to further investigate the excise-related violations in this case.
