Illegal Buildings on Depok's Juanda Street Demolished, Causing Traffic Congestion

Joint officers have dismantled illegal buildings along Jalan Ir Juanda in Depok City, West Java. A number of structures violating regulations were taken down by the authorities. Monitoring at the scene on Thursday (25/6/2026) showed several Depok City Satpol PP officers demolishing the illegal buildings. Additionally, TNI and Polri personnel were present to secure the demolition process. Residents were seen salvaging their valuable belongings as the illegal structures were torn down. The buildings being demolished were located on the roadside of Jalan Juanda. The structures removed included a timber shop, residential buildings, shophouses, and others. Officers also used an excavator to demolish the illegal buildings. The demolition was carried out on both sides of Jalan Juanda. The process proceeded in a conducive manner. However, traffic at the location was temporarily obstructed during the demolition of the illegal buildings. The demolition of illegal buildings on Jalan Ir Juanda has been carried out several times previously. Earlier, Depok City Satpol PP dismantled street vendors and illegal buildings standing on the right-of-way land of a gas pipeline owned by PT Pertamina Gas on Jalan Ir Juanda. In that operation, 79 illegal buildings were successfully demolished by the joint officers. Head of Depok City Satpol PP, Dede Hidayat, explained that this activity is a form of regulatory enforcement on the pipeline right-of-way land. The implementation of this activity is based on Regional Regulation Number 5 of 2022 concerning the Implementation of Public Peace and Order and Community Protection. ‘The demolition started at 08.00 and ran until 16.00 WIB. We divided the team into two points, namely Jalan Pelni to Situ Pangarengan and from Situ Pangarengan to Pasar Kambing,’ said Dede, as seen on the Depok City Government website on Wednesday (23/7). He explained that the demolition, which began on Monday (21/7), is still ongoing today. A total of 265 joint personnel were deployed in the activity, consisting of Satpol PP members, Polri, TNI, the Sub-Detasemen Polisi Militer, Subarnisun, sub-district, and urban village officials. Dede stressed that the demolition is a form of administrative sanction for violators of the regional regulation. In this case, his party had given sufficient time and stages to respond to the appeal, but residents did not heed it.
