Illegal alcohol seized in Irian

MANOKWARI, Irian Jaya: Police have seized thousands of bottles of liquor illegally sold by vendors and distributors here, an officer said last week.

Local police chief Lt. Col. Edy Kuntjoro told Antara on Thursday that all the vendors and distributors arrested in the operation code-named Kasuari will be prosecuted.

Edy said the operation would continue to "eradicate" illegal distribution of alcoholic beverages before the May 29 general elections.

The alcohol included locally made beer, wine, whisky, and traditional drinks known as jenever and saguer. (aan)
