IKN Vice Presidential Palace Opens to Public for First Time
The Vice Presidential Palace in Nusantara Capital City (IKN), East Kalimantan, has been opened to the general public for the first time. The opening was held to mark the 81st anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia on Saturday (15/8/2026).
Deputy for Development Control of the Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN), Thomas Umbu Pati Tena Bolodadi, said the public can visit the Vice Presidential Palace for three days, from 15 to 17 August 2026. Access is open from 10.00 to 17.00 WITA through the Democracy Plaza Gate.
“For the first time, in the momentum of independence day, the public can visit the Vice Presidential Palace for three days, from 15 to 17 August 2026. It is open from 10.00 to 17.00 WITA, through the Democracy Plaza Gate,” said Thomas on Saturday (15/8/2026).
The main building of the IKN Vice Presidential Palace sits at a different elevation from the entrance gate. To reach the veranda and main building, visitors must climb more than 200 steps. However, the management has also provided escalators to ease public access.
Situated on a hill, the Vice Presidential Palace area offers views of IKN development. From the area, visitors can see a number of facilities in the Central Government Core Area (KIPP), including the IKN Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) 1 located at the rear left of the building.
Meanwhile, directly in front of the Vice Presidential Palace, the Ministerial Official Residence (RTJM) complex and State Civil Apparatus (ASN) flats are visible.
Thomas urged the public to make use of the opportunity to see the IKN government area up close. Visitors are also asked to comply with all rules while in the Vice Presidential Palace area, including wearing neat, modest and non-revealing clothing.
During the visit, the public will be accompanied by a guiding team from the IKN Authority. The guides will provide information as well as directions to visitors. Although open to the public, the areas accessible to the public remain limited to designated zones equipped with barriers.
Public enthusiasm was visible during the visit. Several visitors were seen taking selfies in permitted areas while enjoying the view of the IKN area from above. One visitor, Lia from Polewali Mandar (Polman), West Sulawesi, said she deliberately came to the Vice Presidential Palace to take a walk and see the IKN area in person. “Just taking a walk, I wanted to see IKN,” said Lia.
In addition to complying with the dress code and visit zones, the public is also required to follow the rules on taking photos and videos. Taking pictures is only permitted in areas designated by the management.
