Samarinda (ANTARA) — The Nusantara Capital City (IKN) toll road will be opened functionally, with access to Section 1C of the Central Government Core Zone (KIPP) of IKN optimised over 17 days from 13–29 March 2026, to support smooth Eid al-Fitr holiday travel and return traffic for the Islamic year 1447 AH.

This functional opening is the result of collaboration between IKN Authority and the Ministry of Public Works through the National Road Implementation Body (BBPJN) of East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim), to facilitate smoother access between Kaltim – IKN – South Kalimantan.

“During the functional opening period, the IKN toll section can be traversed daily from 06:00 to 18:00 West Indonesia Time. We hope this functional operation can ease congestion,” said Head of BBPJN Kaltim Yudi Hardana in Samarinda on Friday.

On Eid al-Fitr specifically, he continued, the toll section will open earlier from 05:00 until 18:00 West Indonesia Time, to support the mobility of people performing Eid prayers at the State Mosque in IKN.

During this period, BBPJN Kaltim will open two access gates to the IKN zone, namely access to the IKN toll through Manggar Toll Gate, as applied during the Christmas and New Year period.

He also noted that toll operations will remain limited to maintain safety and traffic flow, so the opened toll section is only intended for Class I vehicles or small vehicles such as private cars.

“Motorcycles, buses, and cargo transport vehicles or trucks are not permitted to pass during this functional operational period,” he said.

The opening of the IKN toll is expected to reduce congestion on main routes, making public travel safer and more comfortable, both for those heading to their hometowns and people wishing to visit the IKN Central Government Core Zone during the Eid holiday.

Troy Pantouw, Special Staff to the IKN Authority Head for Public Communication and IKN Authority Spokesman, appealed to the public using the toll section to prioritise safety during their journey.

“We invite the public to use this route in an orderly and responsible manner. Continue to comply with traffic signs, follow instructions from field officers, and ensure your vehicle is in good condition before travelling,” said Troy.

The public is also urged to always comply with traffic signs and maintain driving safety whilst using the IKN toll section that is opened functionally.
