IKN judicial district targeted for completion in 2027

Construction of the judicial district in Nusantara Capital City (IKN), East Kalimantan Province, is continuing on schedule with a target for full completion in 2027.

Commitment Making Officer (PPK) E.4 of the IKN Authority Infrastructure Development Work Unit, Sonny Alissa, said clear weather during the dry season has strongly supported project acceleration, allowing work to be optimised day and night.

“Work in the judicial district is following the contract schedule. The completion target is 2027,” Sonny Alissa said while inspecting the project site in Nusantara on Sunday.

He explained that the first package of the project covers construction of the Supreme Court Building and Justice Plaza.

The Supreme Court Building has an area of 56,000 square metres with seven floors, a main courtroom with a capacity of 473 people, and staff capacity of around 2,000 people.

“For the Supreme Court Building, physical progress currently stands at 12.5 percent, after eight months of work,” Sonny continued.

The Judicial Commission Building has an area of 12,900 square metres with four floors and a courtroom with a capacity of 60 people.

“For the Constitutional Court and Judicial Commission package, progress is 45.7 percent,” Sonny explained.

The judicial district covers 15.15 hectares with separate access for judges, staff and guests.

This separate access is an effort to safeguard the independence of judges as well as for security. Separate access has also been implemented in court buildings throughout Indonesia.

Sonny also explained that all utilities in the district use a Multi Utility Tunnel (MUT) for electricity, telecommunications and drinking water piping networks, so there are no overhead cables. Road construction, landscaping and drainage systems are proceeding in parallel.
