IKN Authority Uses IKNOW App for Digital Reporting to Anticipate Forest and Land Fires During Dry Season
The Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority is utilising the IKNOW application as a digital reporting system to accelerate the handling of settlement fires and forest and land fires (karhutla) in the IKN area during the dry season. Head of the IKN Authority Basuki Hadimuljono stated in Sepaku, North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan, on Friday that the public can report fire indications through a panic button feature on the IKNOW application, which is connected to the Nusantara Command Center. “The digital reporting system is used for handling settlement fires and forest and land fires that have the potential to occur during the dry season,” Basuki said. He explained that incoming reports will be received in real-time by officers at the Nusantara Command Center as part of an early warning system. “Protection of forest areas is an important part of IKN development,” he stated. Monitoring data from June 2026 showed that Kutai Kartanegara Regency, which lies within the IKN delineation area, recorded 40 hotspots, while North Penajam Paser Regency recorded no hotspots. Entering July 2026, the number of hotspots in Kutai Kartanegara Regency increased to 46 points, while North Penajam Paser Regency remained at zero hotspots. The East Kalimantan Provincial Government is also strengthening forest and land fire mitigation in the IKN area through collaboration with the Ministry of Forestry, district governments, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), as well as the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri). Head of the East Kalimantan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Buyung Dodi Gunawan said that cross-agency coordination continues to be strengthened to anticipate potential forest and land fires during the dry season. In addition to strengthening coordination, the East Kalimantan BPBD has also prepared a disaster standby team to support response efforts and monitor the development of hotspots in the IKN area.
