IKN Authority States M4CR Supports Forest City Vision

The Head of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, stated that the Mangroves for Coastal Resilience (M4CR) programme supports efforts to realise the IKN vision as a ‘Forest City’ through mangrove rehabilitation in coastal areas. Basuki noted that the IKN Authority fully supports the implementation of the M4CR programme, which is deemed aligned with the development of the IKN region that prioritises ecosystem recovery.

‘The IKN Authority will provide full support because we greatly need this programme to realise the vision of IKN as a Forest City,’ Basuki said during a speech at the Mangroves for Coastal Resilience (M4CR) Media Gathering in Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan, on Saturday. ‘If you return here in 10 years, this area is guaranteed to have become a forest. Currently, we have already planted more than 5 million trees. We plant routinely every two weeks,’ he added.

He mentioned that the culture of planting trees is also implemented within the IKN Authority environment, including to commemorate anniversaries or promotions. The Mangroves for Coastal Resilience (M4CR) programme is a mangrove rehabilitation initiative implemented by the Ministry of Forestry with funding support from the World Bank since 2024. The programme is being carried out across four provinces—East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Riau, and North Sumatra—through mangrove rehabilitation, governance strengthening, and the involvement of coastal communities. Basuki stated that mangrove rehabilitation via M4CR complements the greening efforts undertaken by the IKN Authority in inland areas, ensuring ecosystem protection extends from upstream to coastal regions.
