IKN Authority Says Mosque Status in Process of Being Designated as State Mosque
Penajam Paser Utara (ANTARA) — The Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority has stated that the IKN Mosque, built in the Sepaku subdistrict of Penajam Paser Utara regency, East Kalimantan province, is in the process of being designated as a State Mosque.
“The status of the IKN State Mosque is still in the process of designation through a Presidential Decree upon the proposal of the Minister of Religious Affairs,” said Alimudin, Deputy for Social Affairs, Culture and Community Empowerment at the IKN Authority, on Thursday, when asked about the status of the IKN Mosque, which has begun functioning for this year’s Ramadan in Sepaku, Penajam Paser Utara.
With its designation as a State Mosque, the governance, technical implementation of worship, and the imam leading prayers at the IKN Mosque will all follow the standards of the Istiqlal State Mosque in Jakarta.
“The imam leading the five daily prayers, tarawih and Eid al-Fitr prayers at the IKN Mosque is Istiqlal Mosque Imam Martomo Malaing,” he explained.
“During the tarawih prayers held on Wednesday evening (18 February), thousands of worshippers filled the IKN Mosque,” he added.
Seven-minute sermons (kultum) during Ramadan are being delivered by Abdul Kholiq, Head of the East Kalimantan Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, whilst a number of selected local preachers are also delivering religious lectures to enrich the spiritual atmosphere in the IKN area.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Dai 3T programme (for frontier, outermost and disadvantaged areas) will also be strengthened in the Sepaku subdistrict, he said.
Ramadan 2026 marks an important milestone, not only as a month of worship but also as a historic landmark in strengthening the religious identity of Indonesia’s new capital.
The IKN Mosque’s facilities have reached 100 per cent readiness, prepared to accommodate worship activities, other religious events, and social activities with national-standard governance, Alimudin said.
