Penajam Paser Utara - The Nusantara Capital Authority (IKN) continues to green the area of Indonesia’s new capital city in parts of Penajam Paser Utara Regency and Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan Province, including by inviting visitors to plant trees.

“Visitors do not just come to see the developments, but also participate in planting trees and activities with their families,” said Director of Macro Planning at the IKN Authority, Pungky Widiaryanto, on Tuesday, when asked about the green areas in Sepaku, Penajam Paser Utara.

The IKN Authority opens visits to the public while presenting participatory activities for visitors, by inviting them to plant trees in the Miniature Tropical Rainforest of Indonesia’s new capital city.

During the national holiday period from 3-5 April 2026, holiday activities combined with tree planting were held, he explained, where visitors were invited to plant trees in the IKN Miniature Tropical Rainforest.

The number of visits recorded reached around 59,676 people with a total of 14,382 vehicles entering the IKN area throughout that national holiday period.

The composition of plants in the holiday and tree-planting activities consisted of 70 percent native Kalimantan species and 30 percent multi-purpose tree species (MPTS) with various benefits to support the ecological function of the sustainable area.

Inviting visitors to plant trees in the forest around IKN or the core government centre area (KIPP), he said, is one of the cultures of Indonesia’s new capital city to restore the tropical rainforest that becomes the vision of IKN as a forest city.

The activity is part of efforts to build a tree-planting culture in IKN, as well as an experience for visitors coming with families and children to plant trees while enjoying the natural atmosphere of Indonesia’s new capital city.

The holiday momentum brings a spirit of novelty and hope in line with the development of IKN, according to Special Staff to the Head of the IKN Authority for Public Communication and IKN Spokesperson, Troy Pantouw, as a green, inclusive, and sustainable future city.

Indonesia’s new capital city is not only developing as a government centre, but also beginning to grow as a public space combining ecological, educational, and recreational aspects for the community, he explained.
