The Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) on Thursday (14/8/2026) officially signed investment cooperation agreements with airline company Lion Air and cinema company PT Indobox Cinematic Buana.

OIKN Head Basuki Hadimuljono explained that Lion Air initially wanted to build a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility. The airline is interested in investing in IKN because it sees the quality of Nusantara International Airport, which has a runway measuring 3,000 metres by 45 metres capable of serving wide-body aircraft.

“Lion wants to build an MRO here, 30 hectares, so that they can create training here. Because they see this airport as very promising, having a 3-kilometre runway,” Basuki said when meeting with journalists at IKN on Thursday (14/8/2026).

Basuki said that OIKN has connected Lion Air’s project plan with the Land Bank Agency for project land preparation. The Land Bank Agency is a special government body (sui generis) that manages Land Management Rights (HPL) covering 4,161.9 hectares in Penajam Paser Utara Regency (PPU), East Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, PT Indobox Cinematic Buana plans to build an entertainment centre consisting of cinemas and cafés.

“We have already secured the land, everything is fine. They have also signed with me, and will begin operating in November,” Basuki said.

As of 7 August 2026, OIKN recorded that realised private investment commitments entering IKN reached Rp74.54 trillion. The private capital was invested by 67 investors, both domestic and foreign, realised to support the acceleration of infrastructure development and the IKN area ecosystem.

In addition to the private sector, there are also private and government investment cooperation projects realised through the public-private partnership (PPP) scheme with a total value reaching Rp134.22 trillion.

Basuki added that IKN development will be supported by four main financing pillars, namely the state budget (APBN), PPP, pure private investment, and grant funds.

“This private investment is encouraging, one of which is PT Start Bright International Investment from China which is building four towers. The apartments have now been ordered by people, more than 100 apartment units. This is surprising,” he concluded.
