Ikadi Chairman Meets Qatari Ambassador, Offers Condolences on Passing of Sheikh Hamad

JAKARTA – The chairman of the central board of the Indonesian Preachers’ Association (PP Ikadi), K.H. Ahmad Kusyairi Suhail, met the Qatari Ambassador to Indonesia, Sultan bin Mubarak Saad Al Dosari, to convey condolences over the death of Qatar’s fifth Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, on Wednesday (15/7/2026).

The meeting, which was also attended by leaders of Islamic mass organisations, took place at the Qatari Embassy representative office in the Kuningan area of South Jakarta.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani passed away on Sunday morning (12/7/2026) at the age of 75.

The late Emir served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013 and was regarded as the most influential leader in Qatar’s modern history.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani succeeded in transforming Qatar, a small nation in the Gulf region, through the development of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry, the establishment of the Al Jazeera media network, and the strengthening of education and scientific research through the construction of Education City, as well as elevating Qatar to become an important player both regionally and internationally.

Sheikh Hamad was also recorded as the first Arab and Muslim leader to dare to visit Gaza whilst the territory was under a total blockade by Israel.

His boldness in visiting Gaza, Palestine, in October 2012 accompanied by his wife, Sheikha Moza binti Nasser, and a number of high-level delegates, at a time when Gaza was suffering a massive blockade, was seen as a strong marker of Qatar’s support for Gaza. He voluntarily abdicated in 2013. Leadership of Qatar was subsequently continued by his son, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to the present day.
