The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) strengthened by 0.86% at the end of the first trading session on Monday (20/7/2026), driven by buying activity across nearly all sectors amidst a wait-and-see attitude from market participants ahead of several important central bank agendas this week. Based on data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) via IDX Mobile, the IHSG stood at 6,228.92, surging 53.38 points or 0.86% compared to the previous trading close. The index’s strengthening was accompanied by an improvement in market breadth. A total of 398 stocks advanced, 188 stocks declined, while 205 stocks remained stagnant. Transaction value reached Rp 8.27 trillion with a trading volume of 20.1 billion shares in 1.4 million transactions. Citing Refinitiv data, the majority of trading sectors on the exchange strengthened, with only healthcare and utilities experiencing corrections. Meanwhile, the primary consumer sector rose 1.47%, basic materials 1.18%, energy 0.99%, and property 0.98%. Shares of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BBRI) were the main driver of the IHSG’s performance with an increase of 11.68 index points, followed by Telkom Indonesia (TLKM) with 7.38 index points and Bank Central Asia (BBCA) with 4.41 index points. BBRI shares were also recorded as the most purchased by foreign investors in the first session with a net buy of Rp 117 billion, although overall foreign investors recorded a net sell of Rp 303 billion in the capital market today. TLKM shares also saw a net buy of Rp 18 billion, while BBCA recorded a net sell of Rp 53 billion. The IHSG’s strengthening occurred amidst varied movements in Asian markets. Investors are still observing developments in the Middle East conflict, which could potentially drive up energy prices, while also awaiting a series of interest rate decisions from several global central banks. Domestically, the main focus is on the results of the Bank Indonesia (BI) Board of Governors Meeting, which will be announced on Wednesday (22/7/2026). The market consensus expects BI to maintain its benchmark interest rate at 5.75%, given the stabilising rupiah and inflation that remains within the central bank’s target range. Externally, market participants are also anticipating the decision on China’s Loan Prime Rate (LPR), the European Central Bank (ECB) interest rate, as well as the release of Japan’s trade and inflation data. This series of agendas is expected to determine the direction of global financial market movements, including the IHSG, throughout the week.
