IHSG Slumps Over 1% Ahead of Eid al-Adha Holiday
JAKARTA, CNBC Indonesia – The Indonesian Stock Exchange Index (IHSG) opened lower on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, continuing pressure after a previous day’s gain. As the first trading session neared its close, the IHSG fell 71.11 points, or 1.15%, to 6,135.24, fluctuating between 6,132.57 and 6,286.87. Trading value for the first session amounted to Rp8.31 trillion with a volume of 14.01 billion shares and 1.09 million transactions. 240 stocks advanced, 419 declined, and 153 remained flat. Most trading sectors declined, with the deepest corrections in primary consumer, energy, and financial sectors. Blue-chip giants including Bank Central Asia (BBCA) contributed 11.72 points to the decline, followed by Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BBRI) and Astra International (ASII). Indonesian financial markets are expected to remain cautious ahead of the extended Eid al-Adha holiday, with trading suspended on Wednesday and Thursday before resuming on Friday. US-Iran negotiations in Doha to end a three-month conflict are showing progress, including discussions on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear programme. However, Washington and Tehran remain uncertain whether a deal can be reached soon. Market optimism drove oil prices down, with Brent crude falling 7% to $96.14 per barrel and WTI dropping over 6% to $90.30 per barrel. US President Donald Trump said talks with Iran were progressing well but warned of possible renewed military action if negotiations failed. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed diplomacy remains the top priority. Israel continued its attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon, while Iran claimed to have shot down a stealth drone in the Persian Gulf. Regional tensions previously triggered oil price surges and shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. Asian markets traded mixed in early trading as investor optimism grew over potential progress in US-Iran talks. South Korea’s main index hit a record high of 8,094.90. The smaller-cap Kosdaq index also rose 2.12%. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.18% after hitting a psychological milestone of 65,000 the previous day. The Topix index fell 0.36% as investors took profits, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 dipped 0.17% at the open. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index futures also declined.
