IHSG Reverses Course at End of Session 1, Maintaining Upward Trend Above 6,100
The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) reversed course at the end of the first trading session on Friday (17/6/2026), closing 0.55% higher at 6,141.9. The index had opened in negative territory, moving between a low of 6,079.32 and a high of 6,153.16 during the session.
The turnaround was driven by a surge in large-cap banking stocks. Bank Mandiri (BMRI) rose 3.25%, Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BBRI) gained 3.15%, Bank Negara Indonesia (BBNI) climbed 2.57%, and Bank Central Asia (BBCA) advanced 2.41%. According to Refinitiv, the financial sector was the sole sector propping up the index, as all other sectors remained in the red. The four major banks contributed nearly 20 points to the IHSG’s gain. Conversely, DCI Indonesia (DCII) was a major laggard, falling 3.94% and weighing on the index by 7.94 points.
Market participants were digesting a series of crucial macroeconomic data releases from Thursday. Domestically, the investment climate showed robust performance. The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) reported that investment realisation in the first half of 2026 reached Rp1,010.6 trillion, a 7.2% increase year-on-year. This figure represents 49.5% of the annual target of Rp2,041.3 trillion and has absorbed 1.44 million workers, a 15% increase from the same period last year.
Adding to the positive domestic sentiment, President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday inaugurated the long-awaited Abadi Field gas project in the Masela Block, Tanimbar Islands, Maluku. The US$20.95 billion project, managed by a consortium of Inpex, Pertamina, and Petronas, is projected to produce 9.5 million tonnes of LNG per year and will feature Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology.
