JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) turned positive during the first trading session on Friday, 22 May 2026, after opening weaker at the start of trade. The index’s gains were supported by rises in a number of sectors, led by the basic materials and energy sectors.

According to data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), the JCI rose by 18.50 points or 0.31% to 6,113.44 by the end of the first session. Total equity trading in the regular market reached Rp 10.17 trillion, with a trading volume of 19.95 billion shares and around 1.14 million transactions.

The JCI’s gains in this afternoon session were driven by most sectors moving into positive territory, with the basic materials sector up 3.78% as the main support. Behind it, the energy sector rose 2.31%, the non-primary consumer goods sector gained 1.05%, transport rose 0.46%, infrastructure gained 0.38%, and the industrials sector rose 0.01%

Meanwhile, several sectors remained in the red. The property and real estate sector fell 0.71%, the technology sector declined 0.64%, the financial sector weakened by 0.47%, the consumer staples sector dropped 0.20%, and the health sector fell 0.11%.

Next in line were PT Hartadinata Abadi Tbk (HRTA), up 7.04% to Rp 2,280 per share. PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (INCO) rose 5.14% to Rp 4,910 per share. The biggest decliners on the LQ45 index were led by PT Petrindo Jaya Kreasi Tbk (CUAN), down 8.41% to Rp 490 per share. PT Amman Mineral International Tbk (AMMN) fell 5.26% to Rp 880 per share, while PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) declined 4.46% to Rp 5,350 per share.

According to Yahoo Finance, the Japan Nikkei 225 rose 2.82%, the Hang Seng in Hong Kong gained 1.19%, and the SSE Composite in China added 0.64%. South Korea’s KOSPI rose 0.59%, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.34%. In contrast, the Asia Dow fell 1.04% in regional trading.

In the foreign exchange market, the rupiah weakened against the US dollar. Bloomberg data through Friday, 22 May 2026, showed the rupiah trading at Rp 17,714 per US$, down 0.27% or 47 points.
