IHSG Plunges 1.48% Today, Abandoning the 6,500 Level!
The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) closed sharply lower on Wednesday’s trading (26/8/2026). The JCI plunged 1.48% or 95.98 points to 6,405.69.
Based on trading data, the JCI opened at 6,507.14 and moved to touch a high of 6,532.17. However, selling pressure intensified until the index ended at its lowest level of 6,405.69.
The pressure on the JCI was reflected in the majority of stocks moving in the red zone. A total of 599 stocks weakened while only 136 stocks strengthened and 228 other stocks remained stagnant.
A number of stock sectors also weakened in unison. Based on Refinitiv data, the utilities sector was the deepest decliner, down 2.98%, followed by industrials which fell 2.26% and property which weakened 2.10%.
The technology sector also corrected 1.78%, non-primary consumer goods fell 1.67%, raw materials weakened 1.53%, financials fell 0.96%, primary consumer goods fell 0.90%, energy fell 0.88%, and healthcare corrected 0.73%.
Among large-capitalisation stocks, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI) was the main drag on the JCI with a contribution of around 9.33 index points to the decline. BBRI shares closed at Rp3,130.
The next pressure came from PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk (AMMN) which contributed around 4.94 index points to the decline, and PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA) which pressured the index by around 4.70 points.
Meanwhile, PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk (BMRI) also weighed on the index with a negative contribution of around 4.35 index points.
On the other hand, a number of stocks were able to provide a positive contribution to the JCI’s movement. PT Merdeka Gold Resources Tbk was the largest contributor to the rise with a contribution of around 4.22 index points, followed by PT Bayan Resources Tbk (BYAN) at 3.47 points and PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk (MDKA) at 1.72 points.
The value of today’s stock trading transactions was recorded at around Rp18.06 trillion, with trading volume reaching 40.16 billion shares and transaction frequency of around 2.49 million times.
Today’s JCI decline also erased the gains that had occurred at the start of trading. The JCI had previously opened up 0.08% at 6,507.14 before finally turning sharply lower. Trading data showed the JCI moved in the range of 6,405.69-6,532.17 throughout the session.
With the close at 6,405.69, the JCI has now returned below the 6,500 level after closing at 6,501.67 in the previous trading session.
