IHSG Opens Up 0.38%, Testing 6,300 Level
The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) opened higher on Wednesday (5/8/2026), amid positive global sentiment after Wall Street again hit record highs and Asian bourses moved into the green. Based on data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), at 09.00 WIB the IHSG stood at 6,343.68, up 24.07 points or 0.38% compared to the previous close of 6,319.61. Transaction value in the early minutes of trading was recorded at around Rp224.9 billion, with a trading volume of 452.3 million shares in 44,070 transactions. A total of 328 stocks rose, 72 fell, and 563 were stagnant. Today’s trading sentiment is expected to be influenced by the release of Indonesia’s second-quarter 2026 economic growth data by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The CNBC Indonesia consensus forecast expects the economy to grow 5.12% year-on-year, lower than the 5.61% recorded in the first quarter of 2026, due to the normalisation of consumption after the Lebaran holiday, slowing exports, and reduced government spending. From the global front, sentiment was broadly positive after the United States and Iran were reported to be continuing negotiations on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, raising hopes of easing geopolitical tensions. This optimism pushed world oil prices down by more than 5%, followed by a weakening of the US dollar index to 99.85 and a decline in the yield on 10-year US government bonds to 4.627%. These conditions are seen as potentially increasing investor appetite for assets in emerging markets, including Indonesia. Meanwhile, Wall Street again closed higher and hit new records, supported by expectations of easing inflationary pressures from falling energy prices and US economic data showing a slowdown in the labour market. Asia-Pacific stock markets also opened higher, following the Wall Street rally. South Korea’s Kospi index surged more than 4%, Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose around 1.8%, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 also moved in positive territory. Market optimism was driven by corporate earnings reports that exceeded expectations and rising hopes for a US-Iran agreement on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Market participants will also monitor the development of foreign capital flows and the domestic market’s response to today’s release of Indonesia’s economic growth data. In yesterday’s trading, foreigners recorded a net buy of Rp623.5 billion across all markets. The buying was concentrated in large-cap banking stocks, with PT Bank Central Asia Tbk. (BBCA) being the most collected by foreign investors with a net buy value of Rp404.4 billion, followed by PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk. (BMRI) at Rp129.9 billion, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (BBRI) at Rp116.1 billion, PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk. (MDKA) at Rp101.2 billion, and PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (BBNI) at Rp94.1 billion.
