The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) opened slightly higher in trading on Wednesday, 26 August 2026. The IHSG rose 5.47 points, or 0.08 percent, to 6,507.14.

The gain brought the IHSG back above the psychological level of 6,500 after Indonesia’s financial markets were closed on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, coinciding with the national holiday of Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW.

Meanwhile, the group of 45 blue-chip stocks in the LQ45 index also recorded gains. The LQ45 index rose 0.62 points, or 0.10 percent, to 642.57.

Although it opened in positive territory, the IHSG’s movement in the early minutes of trading was quite volatile. Around four minutes after trading began, the IHSG reversed course and weakened by as much as 1.05 percent to 6,429.57.

Based on BEI data at 09.00 WIB, the IHSG was recorded at 6,507.14, up 5.47 points compared with the previous closing position of 6,501.67.

In early trading, the IHSG touched a high of 6,509 and a low of 6,429.

Pressure on the index’s movement was also reflected in the majority of stocks trading in negative territory. A total of 124 stocks recorded gains, while 388 stocks weakened and 187 others were unchanged.

The value of share transactions in early trading reached Rp1.37 trillion. Trading volume was recorded at 3.02 billion shares with a transaction frequency of around 230,000 times.

Domestically, one of the market’s key focuses in today’s trading is the fit-and-proper test for Bank Indonesia (BI) governor candidate Destry Damayanti.

Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) is scheduled to hold the fit-and-proper test for Destry on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, at 10.00 WIB through a public hearing.

Destry is the sole candidate for BI governor submitted by President Prabowo Subianto to the DPR. She currently serves as Acting BI Governor after Perry Warjiyo resigned in July 2026.

Previously, Destry served as BI Senior Deputy Governor since 2019. She also had a career as an economist at Mandiri Sekuritas and Bank Mandiri, and served as a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS).

Market participants will be watching Destry’s views on the direction of monetary policy, rupiah exchange rate stability, inflation control, and efforts to maintain foreign capital flows into Indonesia.
