The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) opened 101 points, or 1.77 percent, higher at 5,846 on Friday’s trading session. Head of Retail Research Analyst Fanny Suherman predicted the IHSG would move sideways during the day. “The IHSG has the potential to move sideways in the range of 5,650 to 5,875,” Fanny said in her daily research note on Friday.

She noted that Asian markets were mixed, with the majority weakening in Thursday’s trading. Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 2.47 percent, while the Topix rose 0.09 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng strengthened 0.58 percent, Taiwan’s Taiex dropped 0.58 percent, and Australia’s ASX 200 edged up 0.02 percent. South Korea led the declines, with the Kospi plunging 7.89 percent and the Kosdaq tumbling 6.74 percent, despite a 68 percent surge in the indices during the second quarter of 2026 driven by a rally in AI-related stocks. Chipmaker SK Hynix plummeted 14.6 percent, and Samsung Electronics fell 9.1 percent. Meanwhile, the FTSE Straits Times rose 1.08 percent and the FTSE Malay KLCI gained 0.3 percent.

Fanny stated that support for the IHSG lies at 5,650 to 5,700, while resistance is in the range of 5,800 to 5,875. On Wall Street, indices closed variably on Thursday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a record high after weaker-than-expected US labour data raised hopes that the Federal Reserve would hold off on raising interest rates. In contrast, the Nasdaq weakened due to a massive sell-off in semiconductor stocks. The Dow Jones surged 1.14 percent, the S&P 500 closed nearly flat at 7,483.24, and the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.8 percent.
